Working at a homeless shelter can be stressful but it can also be a source of uplifting(令人振奋的) stories!
My job is partly dealing with the 41 family housing calls. The very first 42 I had was from a single mother. She was 43 . She told me she had gotten into a terrible car accident and wasn’t able to 44 for a while, so she lost her job, had lots of 45 bills and fell behind on rent. If she still couldn’t find a new job, she would be thrown out of her apartment. She and her two children had 46 to go.
After she finished explaining the 47 , she stopped and said, “I’m so sorry! Thank you for letting me tell my story. I’ve tried to contact every 48 and church organization in the area but no one listens or cares.” This is very true, and therefore it is the 49 and frustrating part of this job.
My response was, “I will try to help you 50 in any way I can. Please don’t 51 hope.” Unfortunately at that time we had no openings(空缺) for 52 housing, so I took her 53 down and told her I’d call her right back.
I personally went through the shelters and agency numbers, calling 54 behalf. I explained her story whole-heartedly and 55 ! I found an opening for a family in a shelter in her area.
I 56 called her back! She was so shocked that I actually called.
I gave her the 57 news and she started weeping again. But this time they were tears of happiness and 58 .
That day changed my life. So now, when the 59 at work gets too much and I want to throw my phone out of the window, I 60 this story and I remember why I am doing this.
